[475] TIRED

It’s been a good while since I did an all-nighter, particularly on a Wednesday, but last night sleep just didn’t feature in the schedule and I’m now at work after 29 hours awake, 7 pints of Guinness and half a bottle of red wine. I haven’t talked for so long for years and it was really nice to have things to natter about for so long, although it did come with a price to pay in sobering up while awake. Now I’m existing in some kind of semi-real daze until I can get myself home and to sleep for a while. I don’t function well at all in this condition; sleep is in order if I’m to make the quiz tonight.

[474] Wild geese

Reading Gillian’s LiveJournal recently – that link might not lead you to much as most of it is friend’s only, but the gist of it is her analysis of her recent break-up – has, once again, got me thinking about the past. One thing I’ve learned which I think will come in handy is not to be bitter about things said in the past that now seem false. I think they only seem false, because the intent behind past words is no longer there after a split, but you have to remember that at the time, the passion behind them was real. You know the sort of thing – a card written at the start of a relationship, full of words sounding so hollow by the end. I get the odd moment’s reflection when I wonder whether the meaning was there, but I remember that at the time it read more.

[473] YouTube videos on MySpace

You know what I hate more than anything else about the steaming virtual pile of piss that is MySpace? (Yep, there’s another hypocritical dig at MySpace from me.) It’s those profiles you come across now and then that consist entirely of video windows from YouTube. The page is like a Tetris grid in a game going really badly. Your browser slows to a crawl as it tries to cope with 18 videos loading up at once, the page jerking around as the latest KT Tunstall video ripped from MTV loads on one side while a clip of Richard Hammond driving a 747 into a Ford Escort judders away on the other. And what’s the point? What do these videos tell me about you? They tell me that if you’re anything like your profile in person, your eyes will be relocated to your kneecaps, it’ll be impossible to tell what the read more.

[472] The disadvantage of having one train home per hour

So, a guy turns up at 2.35pm, and I explain if he gets back in the next ten minutes I can help him out. Cue him coming back at 2.55pm, and me missing my 3.07pm train. Bastard.

So, I’m sat here for another hour discussing the musical qualities of a chocolate-stuffed harmonica with John. This hour gives me time to write a little, though. Since an insightful conversation last night, I’ve been thinking more about the meaning of “x”. x can mean a lot of things, but I’m on about those little x’s at the end of messages and e-mails.

I’ve never understood them, indeed I have a vague memory of writing about this years ago. (I’d check but can’t be bothered searching the archive.) The gist of what I wrote back then would have been the same, though. How do you interpret the meaning of a lone x at the end read more.

[471] Shopping

I went to the shop, and I bought: a pair of jeans, a mattress cover, rice noodles and a lightbulb.

In other news, I have found myself arranging a trip to Three Bs Brewery with a lot of people I have never met. Come Friday evening, I’ll be talking to a real ale afficionado in an Adidas coat about the merits of distillery, oak casks and drinking as much bitter as you can for £9.50.

Such is life.

[470] 1337 bulletin lol

Q1: does leigh count my own site as posting an “either pointless, a questionnaire, what colour is your soul?” bulletin?!!! lol

[469] The only good thing I’ve ever…

…contributed to the internet age was just ruined by me mis-spelling “go”.

Khan!

[468] Direction

Something of a dilemma for me at present is the question of which direction I feel best moving in at the moment. All I know is that moving away from the past is proving a healthy thing but with 360° to choose from, I don’t know whether 49° or 212° is the best route. That’s a pointlessly vague statement so I should clarify my point – I have a question of which group or groups of people I’m best spending my time with now. I know quite a lot of people and with the odd overlap they’re in quite disparate groups, which has its pro’s and con’s. For example, Glastonbury 2005 was an overlap of a couple of old friends with my closest family, when normally I go to my friends for one thing and my family for another. Recently I’ve added a few more groups and people and the read more.

[466] Musical speed

The tiredness really caught up with me in the last hour, and I was beginning to contemplate what the most efficient cocktail of stimulants would be to keep me going through tonight, but then I went on someone’s MySpace page and it had Raoul (2007 Version) by The Automatic playing on it. Bang, awake!
