[131] The original Adrian Mole TV series

A bit of nostalgia here… but creepy nostalgia. The TV series is one of those things I remember from the 80s that make me feel just… shivery. Not in a bad way – I still love the series, it’s fantastic. But the theme tune is about the most 80s sound you could hope for – in my eyes, at least, it just fits perfectly with the memories I have of the time. The strange chord that finishes off the theme tune is just so… right for the time, it’s creepy. The programme itself is another matter. The casting for that series was amazing… they fit the books spot-on. And I think everyone has their own Pandora, which is still the masterstroke of the story. When I was reading the new books, my heart sank a few pages in because I knew where they were going, I knew Adrian would never read more.

[85] Bloody blokes

In a similar vein to man-tarts. There are lots of bloody blokes in the part of England I live in. Go down to a local pub on a Sunday afternoon and you’ll see loads of blokes. They drink Carling or John Smiths (nice and safe), wear casual sportswear (anything that is actually called “casual sportswear” in the shop) if they’re young or slacks and an outrageously-coloured short sleeve casual shirt (cyan, pink, pale yellow, etc.) if they’re older. They talk about football, women and cars. Out of four blokes together, one will be the ringleader and do most of the piss-taking, which gets pretty nasty at times but is just a bit of banter. One will be the youngest there who’s desperately acting his best to fit in with the way the older blokes act. All bloody blokes have nagging wives at home who they come to the pub to read more.

[296] Up to date

Well, I haven’t even thought about writing on this page for months, but at the moment I’m giving the site a makeover and thought it appropriate to put down where I am at this moment in time. Looking back over the old pages is still interesting, for me at least, so I want to stick at least something in here every so often so I don’t forget what’s been happening.

I’m in my Easter break at the moment. Got a few bits of work to do, which I’m avoiding for as long as possible (natch), did a little bit of work, but that’s about all. There’s still very little for me to occupy myself with, given that I don’t drink when I’m here. A few weeks ago I finally found out what’s wrong with me – ten months after it started. Essentially it’s a kind of allergic reaction to my previous read more.
