It’s been a funny few weeks. Went through a particularly bad patch a couple of weeks ago, but I’m over it now. I’ve given up on St. John’s as well because the initial effect wore off pretty quickly, which was disappointing. At one point I considered going to talk to one of the uni counsellors, but I reconsidered. I know I wouldn’t be able to just talk about myself to someone else without feeling silly and weak, and besides, whatever they said, it wouldn’t change whatever it is that makes me feel so crappy sometimes. I saw one at college and it was pointless, just cliched psychobabble which was really just going over the obvious. Well, anyway, since then I’ve felt quite a lot better. In the last two weeks I’ve done most of the work I have to have done by Christmas, and got myself a job. Working for the …read more.
The worst thing to come out of ITV getting the Premiership rights, apart from Andy Townsend, Jon Champion, the adverts, the theme tune, the… well, OK, maybe it’s not the worst thing, but it’s still fucking annoying – the God-awful action camera angles they use when showing the goals on On The Ball. You know the bits I mean? When they go around the grounds showing the goals from last weekend’s games, and you get a voice-over wittering on, but you can’t actually see anything of the goals because the camera angle seems to be from a camera mounted on the goalscorer’s head, so all you get is a lot of blurred pictures of Gudni Bergsson backtracking, a look down at the ball then next thing you know Emile Heskey and half the team have jumped on your back. Seriously though, what’s the point of them? You’re watching the programme …read more.
An apology here for the years I spent going with the flow and criticising nu-metal. In my defence, a few years ago I think nu-metal really was pretty bad – most of the Limp Bizkit stuff and that kind of cheap shouty stuff. Sometime over the last couple of years though, I’ve begun to like some of it quite a lot and I don’t think it’s fair to label it all as shite any longer. Linkin Park have got three or four great tracks; while you can still compare it unfavourably to classic metal, at the moment its some of the best stuff going round if you’re not into pop or the curious indie-rock that’s appeared (Chilli Peppers etc.). So, yeah. I take back what I said about nu-metal… I don’t mind it at all any more.
Last weekend has been and gone. To be honest, actual drinking again wasn’t as great as I’d expected, but I had a bloody good time anyway. It took a while to get used to the feeling again – at first I thought I had a headache – but drunkeness proved once again it’s always there for you. Danced like a wazzock, think I lied about something, insulted some randoms – yep, I’m drinking again. Morrissey was great. That’s actual Morrissey, not the whole event. The event in itself was horrible. Perhaps I should have been expecting it but it was very depressing. For the last five years I’ve so believed, so clung to the belief, that Smiths fans would be the people out there I could rely on… to have that smashed was a big, bad thing. It feels like I was betrayed. I was expecting single, angry maladjusted people. All …read more.
I’ve had a bit of a low weekend all round, really… like a bad boy I went out drinking for three nights in a row for the first time since I first had problems with my stomach last year, and I’m paying for it now. Had to leave the pub early last night ’cause I was getting spasms and coughing up blood and just… oh, I dunno… I’m very tired of it all and it’s getting me down and I’m not sure how much more of it I can take. I try my best to ignore it and not let it take over my life, but I’m going to be beaten and have to admit defeat, that much is obvious. Was a shame because I was having quite a good day too; went out to watch the football with my uncle on his birthday, I was feeling in quite a …read more. |
