[92] The “how The Human League formed” story

It’s a proven fact that 90% of television programmes about 80s music will contain at least five minutes of footage cutting back and forwards between Phil Oakey and the girls from the Human League, telling us the most amusing story of how Phil approached the schoolgirls who were dancing in a Sheffield nightclub and asked them to join his band. And, would you believe it, that’s how The Human League formed! Amazing story, cracking anecdote. Perhaps I wouldn’t hate it so much if it didn’t appear to be the only thing Phil Oakey has been allowed to talk about for the last fifteen years. Tch. Here’s an example from Teletext, whose music pages were eviewing The Human League’s new album…

On similar lines, I also hate any references to Andrew Ridgeley now being a surfer in Cornwall (and any jokes about George Michael read more.
